In early 1997, Kevin W. Paulisse and William F. Polik wanted to implement a web-based discussion board system for classroom use, but found the products of the time to be lacking in features and usability. So, they set out to write their own discussion system, and discovered that its potential use extended far beyond the walls of their classroom. The two named their innovative software product "Discus," founded a company called "DiscusWare," and made their software available for free to anyone who wanted it. It became an instant success.
Over time, customers began to desire certain enhanced features of particular use for larger and security-conscious implementations. In November of 1998, a commercial version of the software called "Discus Pro" was made available for purchase. Since then, over 100,000 customers throughout the world have registered Discus implementations on their websites, and thousands of satisfied customers have purchased Discus Pro licenses. DiscusWare continues its rich history of innovation, offering new features and product upgrades that provide exceptional value to all customers.
Developing solid software and offering superior service have allowed DiscusWare to build a loyal customer base. Since its foundation, DiscusWare has provided free technical support by e-mail to all customers, and continues to do so. We have expanded our technical support offerings to include support contracts, telephone support, and consulting at various service levels. Any DiscusWare representative who provides information or support will be an actual software developer, so you know your needs will be met with the highest possible level of professionalism and experience.
DiscusWare's customers appreciate the products and services that are provided. Individuals throughout the world have contributed templates, visual customizations, feature additions, and translations. Customers participate alongside DiscusWare employees in the DiscusWare support forum, helping each other and sharing their experiences. And customers are important to the development of new features, products, and services, as they provide feedback, comments, and suggestions.
DiscusWare has always been an innovative company. When it was first written, Discus was one of only a few products to organize content in a "linear" messaging style - today, that format is the rule rather than the exception. Current development features a discussion system compatible with MySQL, Oracle, and Microsoft SQL Server databases, which will be the first of its kind in its price range. For tomorrow and beyond, we will continue to innovate by continuing development of our discussion product lines, providing solutions to meet ever-expanding needs, and treating our valued customers with the respect they deserve.
